is a home-made swaddling blanket a good shower gift?

I was thinking of making a pair of them along with matching spit-up cloths for a friend. They would be made of a soft flannel/cotton fabric and sized so they would be useful into the toddler years for various purposes. Would this be something a new mom would want or need?

If you’re planning on making a swaddling blanket then it would be best to use a stretchy-er fabric than flannel…t-shirt material works great!
